The North American hard-court swing is in full swing, and Daniil Medvedev has revealed that it is his favorite season of the year. His love for this part of the season is evident as he stated, “Often, when this part of the season comes – in Canada – I feel like it doesn’t matter what happened before, because it’s usually the best part of the year for me.”
In an interview with the official ATP website, Medvedev expressed his satisfaction with his season so far, despite not being able to secure any titles. “I’m quite happy with my season, honestly. I’ve achieved some great results and won some good matches. The thing I don’t like is that I haven’t won any titles, but I’m playing well in the big tournaments and I’ve only lost to exceptional players.”
The Russian player’s love for the North American hard-court swing dates back to the summer of 2019, when he experienced a significant breakthrough. It was in Montreal that Medvedev realized he had what it takes to compete and win at the highest level of the sport. Although he fell short in the final against Rafael Nadal, he gained the confidence needed to claim the title in Cincinnati the following week.
Reflecting on his experience in Montreal, Medvedev recalled, “First 1000 final in Montreal in 2019? Everything went well there and I was able to play quite well. I faced Nadal in the final unfortunately and, at that moment, he was too strong for me.” However, the loss fueled his determination to excel in the big tournaments. His run to the US Open final further solidified his belief that he could compete with the best.
As the season progresses, Medvedev is focused on his goal to win a big title and earn crucial points. He explained, “I will try until the end of the season to win a big title and get points, because it’s important. I’m happy with my season, but I want more.” With his eyes set on success, Medvedev is poised to make a strong impact on the North American hard-court swing.
