Renowned tennis figure Richard Williams, the proud father of superstar sisters Serena and Venus Williams, has always had a deep-rooted love for the open road. Despite grappling with significant health challenges in recent times that have affected his speech and cognitive abilities, Williams remains adamant about continuing his lifelong passion for driving.
In a recent interview with The Sun, Richard’s son, Chavoita LeSane, shed light on his father’s unwavering affection for being behind the wheel. “My dad loves to drive, it’s his passion,” LeSane revealed. “He would never give up his license. It will be a sad day for him when he’s unable to pass the test.”
This fervor for driving was showcased when Richard found himself in a bit of trouble with the law in Palm Beach, Florida on July 12. The 79-year-old was pulled over by police for exceeding the speed limit, as he was caught driving his brand-new silver Volkswagen truck at 44 mph in a 35 mph zone. As a result, he was handed a $131 fine, sparking some public scrutiny. Fortunately, no further legal action was required from Williams.
The incident has, however, raised some concerns about Richard’s ability to navigate the roads safely. Despite his passion for driving, some worry that his health issues may compromise his skills behind the wheel. Will his determination to stay on the road clash with the need for caution and responsibility?
Only time will tell how this story unfolds, but one thing is for certain – Richard Williams’ love for driving remains unshakeable, regardless of the challenges he may face.
