In what seems to be a trend for the Danish tennis star, Caroline Wozniacki is once again contemplating wrapping up her season after the US Open, just like she did last year. The former world No. 1 made it clear that the final Slam of the year is likely to be her last tournament for the season.
Last summer, Wozniacki surprised fans with her return to professional tennis, competing in the WTA 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati before receiving a wildcard entry to the US Open. Her comeback to Flushing Meadows was nothing short of remarkable, as the veteran player defied the odds by winning her first three matches before bowing out to eventual champion Coco Gauff in the round of 16.
After a successful stint in New York, where she showcased glimpses of her former glory, the 2018 Australian Open winner decided to call it a season and shift her focus to preparing for the upcoming year.
During a post-match press conference at this year’s US Open, Wozniacki hinted at her post-tournament plans following a dominant victory over Noa Hibino. When asked about the possibility of ending her season early once again, she responded, “I honestly don’t know what my plans are after the Open right now. My initial thought is I’m probably not going to play after, but I don’t know. I don’t have a final say. Again, wherever I travel, I’m going to go with the kids, and I also have to see what’s best for the family and myself.”
At 34 years old, Wozniacki has been a familiar face at Flushing Meadows since her debut in 2007. With a total of 15 appearances at the US Open under her belt, including this year’s tournament, the seasoned pro continues to captivate audiences with her tenacity and skill on the court.
