In a shocking turn of events, Danielle Collins, the 30-year-old American tennis player, has announced that she will not be retiring from the WTA Tour at the end of this year as previously stated. Instead, she revealed on her Instagram account that she will be making a comeback in 2025.
Collins cited various reasons for her change of heart, including dealing with hurricanes in her home state of Florida and seeking advice from specialist doctors regarding her health concerns. In her social media post, she mentioned that she had been “a little MIA (missing in action) the last few weeks” but assured her fans that she is actively working to overcome challenges related to endometriosis and fertility.
“Dealing with endometriosis and fertility is a massive challenge for many women and something that I am actively traversing, but I am fully confident in the team I am working with. It is just going to take longer than I thought,” Collins explained.
Despite initially planning to retire, Collins expressed confidence in her decision to continue competing, stating, “So, the DANIMAL story has not reached its conclusion. I will be back on tour in 2025.”
Interestingly, Collins’ announcement came shortly after a United Cup media release in Australia named her as one of the American entries for the mixed teams tournament in Perth and Sydney from Dec. 27 to Jan. 5. With the Australian Open set to begin on Jan. 12, these tune-up tournaments will serve as preparation for Collins as she gears up for her return to competitive tennis.
The tennis world is abuzz with excitement as fans eagerly anticipate the return of Collins to the WTA Tour in 2025. With her determination and resilience, there’s no doubt that she will make a strong comeback and continue to leave her mark on the sport.
