American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff, has found herself in a rough patch lately with early exits at multiple tournaments leaving her fans and pundits bewildered. The 20-year-old’s troubles seem to have started after her triumph in the doubles event at the French Open earlier this year.
Rather than making a push for the finals as many expected, Gauff faced disappointing defeats at Wimbledon and the Olympics. Losing to Emma Navarro at the prestigious grass court tournament and failing to get past Donna Vekic at the Olympics, Gauff’s ranking took a hit as she couldn’t live up to the expectations set for her.
The struggles extended to the Canadian Open where Gauff’s tournament run ended in the third round. And most recently, at the Cincinnati Open, she was ousted in the round of 32 by world No. 34 player, Yulia Putintseva.
The concerning topic of Gauff’s slump made its way to the Tennis Channel, where tennis analyst, John Wertheim, was asked to shed light on what could be contributing to her poor performances. “Coco Gauff is clearly going through a rough patch at the moment, and it’s important to analyze the different factors that might be playing into her struggles,” Wertheim commented.
With Gauff’s recent form raising eyebrows in the tennis world, the young American will be looking to turn things around and rediscover the winning formula that made her a rising star in the sport.
