In a surprising turn of events, world No. 7 Hubert Hurkacz has decided to part ways with his coach Craig Boynton after suffering an early exit at the US Open. The duo had been working together for an impressive five and a half years, during which time they captured eight titles, including two prestigious Masters 1000 shields.
Hurkacz, who recently achieved a career-best ranking, felt that it was time to explore new opportunities and elevate his game to even greater heights. The partnership between the Polish player and Boynton began in Indian Wells in 2019, with Hurkacz making significant strides in his game by reaching his first Masters 1000 quarter-final after defeating the likes of Kei Nishikori and Denis Shapovalov.
Following this success, Hurkacz went on to claim his first ATP title in Winston-Salem, solidifying his spot inside the top 40 by the end of the season. Although the 2020 season did not see the Pole reach the heights he desired, he still managed to finish the year in the top 40 rankings once again.
However, it was in Miami 2021 where Hurkacz truly showcased his potential, upsetting several top players such as Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev, and Jannik Sinner on his way to victory. Despite a rough patch in the following months, the tide turned at Wimbledon, where Hurkacz stunned both Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer to reach his first Major semi-final and inch closer to a spot in the coveted top 10 rankings.
